Hyperliquid vaults and copy trading
A Hyperliquid vault lets you put USDC behind another trader. The vault leader trades, and you share in the profits and losses in proportion to your deposit. It's Hyperliquid's built-in version of copy trading.
The rules, from the official docs
| Leader's profit share | 10% of profits |
| Lockup | 1 day after depositing (HLP: 4 days) |
| Leader's own stake | At least 5% of the vault at all times |
| Your share | Profits and losses in proportion to your deposit |

Example: you own 10% of a vault that grows from 1,000 to 2,000 USDC. Your 10% is now worth 200 USDC, a 100 USDC profit. The leader takes 10% of that profit, so you withdraw 190 USDC.
How to deposit
- Set up an account and deposit USDC (beginner tutorial).
- Open the Vaults page and pick a vault to see its history, positions and leader.
- Click Deposit, enter an amount and confirm.
- To exit, click Withdraw on the same page after the lockup ends.
How to judge a vault
- History length: months of results, not a few lucky weeks.
- Drawdowns: the worst fall matters more than the best month.
- Leverage and positions: open the positions tab; huge leverage means huge risk.
- Size: a strategy that worked with a small vault may not scale.
- Leader's own stake: more skin in the game is a better sign.
What happens when you withdraw
If the vault doesn't have enough free margin to pay you, the docs say it cancels open orders first, then closes positions in 20% steps until there's enough. That can cause slippage, so the amount you receive can be a little lower than the screen showed.
Risks
- Past performance doesn't predict future returns. Vaults can lose most of their value.
- You can't exit during the lockup, even if the market turns.
- The leader decides everything; you can only withdraw.
- HLP, the protocol's own vault, works differently. See HLP explained.
